She stood as long as she could, our delicate yet defiant pink lady and piece of our history. Her back story about being a spite house (whether it was true or not, I don’t know) made her even more interesting and intriguing. She was an artist’s dream especially at sunrise and sunset and an unofficial yet official gateway to Plum Island. I’m thankful I was able to capture the beauty of this pretty lady, our beloved pink icon. I did not grow up around here, but like so many others, I became infatuated and captivated with her quiet beauty and how she proudly stood in the middle of the marsh. I loved that she was a refuge for local birds of prey and how they gravitated to her. I drove by the vacant spot where she stood for nearly 100 years and I just couldn’t bring myself to take a picture. It’s so strange and sad not to see her, but I know her spirit lives on in all of her friends, fans and followers. Thank you to everyone who worked so tirelessly to save her. Shine on sweet, precious pink lady and thank you for the memories. (1925 - 2025)
